Cody Ellis

Audit Associate

Cody is a Staff Associate in our Audit Team where he provides audit and assurance services to nonprofit, governmental, and educational organizations. Prior to joining Gilbert, he developed a broad accounting and bookkeeping background through roles in property management, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses.

Cody earned his Master of Science in Accountancy from California State University, Sacramento, a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology from Point Loma Nazarene University. He brings a well-rounded background and strong foundation in accounting to his work serving Gilbert’s clients.

Life Away From Gilbert 

Away from the office, Cody enjoys working in the yard, tackling hands-on projects, and spending time outdoors. He also likes walking and jogging, which give him time to think and recharge. His longstanding interests in philosophy and theology continue to draw him toward good books, meaningful conversations, and questions about what matters most.

A work-related accomplishment that made you proud?

"Before entering accounting, I worked in property management and tackled a variety of property-cleanup projects. Believe it or not, one involved spending more than a year clearing and organizing a 16,000-square-foot barn filled with decades of accumulated debris. It required countless hours of sorting, many dump loads, careful planning, and plenty of perseverance. I'm proud that we restored the barn to use, but even more proud of the commitment behind it - a quality I try to bring to all my work."

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be and why?

"Conversation. It has been a privilege - and, in some cases, life-changing - to sit with people who ask thoughtful questions and truly listen to the answers. What if I could offer that to every person I met: taking the time to understand their hopes, what drives them, and what matters most to them?"

What would you do if you did not have to work?

"A big part of my background before accounting involved asking and answering life's big questions. If I didn't have to work, I would devote more time to studying philosophy and theology - reading and reflecting on what is true and lasting. I'd also explore more of our cultural inheritance, especially the great works of literature and art that have endured for the way they capture the world and lift the human spirit."
